Please be informed that SMC will be closed on Friday 24th May, 2013 as it is Visakha Bucha day. We will resume work on Saturday 25th May, 2013.
Visakha Bucha Day falls on the full moon day of May (the sixth lunar month) in each year. The word Visakha Puja comes from the word Visakhapunnamipuja in Pali which means Worshiping on the full moon day of the sixth month. It marks the three important events, occurred in the Buddhas life, namely; His Birth, His Enlightenment, and His Passing away (Parinibbana).
On December 13, 1999, the United Nations as the World Organization performing various activities accepted by the world wide population has unanimously resolved to declare the Visakha Puja Day (Vesak Day) as an International Day on December 15, 1999. This brings a lot of joy to the worldwide Buddhists.
